A Christmas Poem about Thee and Me

When my mind drifts back over the weeks and years,

There’s just one face that always appears.

I well remember the day that I first saw it and the many,

nights since that I have dreamed about it.

I remember it sometime carrying books for educational gain,

and at other times an umbrella walking in the rain.

I remember a car, if you can call it that,

whose name was Betsey with a tire that was flat.

I remember a little house high in a tree,

that was such a wonderful place to be.

I remember it drifting down an aisle.

Just the sight of it made me smile.

Many days have passed since that June,

and life hasn’t always been a honeymoon.

But all through the years both good and bad,

together we’ve made memories, both happy and sad.

Many years have passed since that day in the sub,

but not a one from my memory would I rub.

Together we’ve learned so many things,

And now look forward to what another year brings.

Now in the sunset of our days,

I have come to cherish each of your ways.

The face and hands are older now,

but for me you just never age somehow.

I still love the twinkle in your eye,

and the curiosity that can’t help but spy.

Our steps are a little slower these days,

but I still love you in so many ways.

I loved you then, I love you at year forty-six,

and there is no doubt I’ll love you in eternity.

So Merry Christmas my love and may it always be,

just you and I as God meant it to be.

If I get there first I’ll save you a place,

cause it just wouldn’t be Heaven without your face.

I love you so much.
