It’s Not About Health Care
Wayne Leeper
We are seeing the biggest uprising of ordinary, hard working, God fearing, and patriotic American citizens I have ever witnessed in my lifetime. The anger boiling over in tea parties and town hall meetings is only the tip of the iceberg. The president and leaders in Congress are labeling us as un-American, mobsters, Astroturf, evil, and any number of other adjectives. In addition, they are bussing in their goons to disrupt peaceful public protest. We are being presented as an uncaring fringe who object to all Americans having quality health care. Nothing could be further from the truth. Americans are the most charitable and generous people in the world.
It is not better and more affordable health care that we object to. It is the intrusion into every aspect of our private lives by an oversized government that is totally out of control. We now fully understand what “change you can believe in” really means, and we want no part of it. The burden of debt being placed on our children and grandchildren is nothing short of obscene. America achieved greatness, not because of the government, but because of the people. Left alone the people of America created the greatest nation in the history of mankind. Freedom has been our driving force since our forefathers revolted against the oppressive government of King George of England.
Our nation has been built on the fundamental values of freedom, hard work, personal dignity, respect for others, family and God. These pillars of a great society have sustained and strengthened us for over two hundred and twenty-five years. The world is a better place because of the ingenuity and industry of the American people when left alone to operate in a free and open marketplace of ideas, values, and opportunities.
It is our individual freedoms that are being taken away as the current government moves to take control over every aspect of our society and our lives. The word best descriptive of their goal is socialism. We have seen it in the government takeover of the engines of production, the banking system, the auto industry, and now the health care system. The people who bankrupted Social Security and Medicare are now telling us we must trust them with our health care as well. They cannot be trusted because their objectives are becoming all too clear. If they win this one it will be quickly followed by card check, cap and trade, and immigration reform.
We want government out of our homes, our pocketbooks, and our lives. If the current crop of power-hungry, self-serving politicians are not capable of understanding and accomplishing this, it is time for them to be replaced with statesmen who do understand and who will do something about it. King George underestimated the will and determination of the American colonists. Politicians today who underestimate the will and determination of the American people do so at their own peril. It’s not about Republican or Democrat; it’s about We the People. Our forefathers understood this. It is time we have people in Washington who understand it as well.
